Blood Diamond (2006)

Blood Diamond

First Impression: Did I ever mentioned I love Leonardo DiCaprio? Well now you know! Again!

Afterthoughts: A typical Hollywood take on the corruption in diamond mining industry. As long as you don’t take everything as fact or believe for a second DiCaprio was speaking in a genuine African accent, then you’ll find it quite watchable. It’s got the suspense, the action, the thrill, the romance, Leonardo, what’s not to love?

Catch Me If You Can (2002)

Catch Me If You Can

First Impression: I like DiCaprio’s acting, so this seemed like a good movie to rent.

Afterthoughts: Unless you hate DiCaprio with a passion, this film is a great fun to watch. The audiences follow Frank Abagnale Jr.’s life as he moves from one identification to another and con his way through life. FBI Agent Carl Hanratty, played by Tom Hanks, is roped into a never ending game of cat and mouse, trying his best to catch Abagnale. Rent this if you’re tired of all the overly serious or overly stupid movies. DiCaprio really does have a knack in making his characters realistic and believable.

The Beach (2000)

The Beach

First Impression: Caught this on TV. My question before watching was whether Leonardo DiCaprio deserved the attention he got after his famous role in the all-time blockbuster Titanic.

Afterthoughts: Apparently, this film is based on a book. But I haven’t read that so I can’t really compare them. I saw this awhile ago, so I don’t remember much, but it was actually quite good. It’s about a group of teens that discovered a secret paradise in Thailand, but of course, things aren’t as simple as it seems. I’m not sure why people don’t like DiCaprio but he did a great job in this.

The Aviator (2004)

The Aviator

First Impression: A movie about flying? Won’t miss it for the world.

Afterthoughts: The movie is based on famous tycoon Howard Hughes’ struggle in making movies, designing planes, and managing his airline in his early years. Leonardo DiCaprio did an amazing job being Howard Hughes. His voice and mannerism just completely transcended “acting”; he WAS Howard Hughes. It’s a shame he didn’t win an Oscar for this role, losing out to the overrated Jamie Foxx. (The movie too lost to the unoriginal Million Dollar Baby). It’s a MUST SEE…really!
